CEFRIEL

CEFRIEL, ICT Centre of Excellence for Research, Innovation, Education & industrial Labs partnership, is a unique centre where academic expertise and cutting edge business know-how meet and integrate. CEFRIEL pursues these objectives through leading research activities, innovative services to enterprises, master programs, and high-level ICT education to professionals.
Since 1988, CEFRIEL has continuously improved its original mission to act as a link between the needs of Industry and University. Interaction between the two worlds results in cooperative research laboratories whose activities have led to a wide range of innovative software and hardware product and services. CEFRIEL is organized into four ICT technology  competence centres covering all information and communications areas of expertise, from microelectronics to software engineering.
Moreover, CEFRIEL organization addresses multidisciplinary research and development of innovative services and solutions in crucial application sectors, i.e. eGovernment, ICT for Medicine, Public Protection, Media and Communication, Ambient Intelligence, Environment, Mobility, addressing both technological and project management issues.
The CHOReOS project will be carried out by the Digital Enterprise and Information Systems (DE), and Digital Platforms and Pervasive ICT (DP) competence centres (divisions). 

Expertise brought to CHOReOS

For several years, the DP division of CEFRIEL has acquired a considerable experience in the area of network and service planning, modeling and analysis, as well as specification, implementation, testing and evaluation of mobile, distributed multimedia and real-time systems. The DE division has deep know-how and consolidated background in the area of service engineering and specifically in BPM, adaptive dynamic composition and SLA negotiation.
The main areas that can be of interest for CHOReOS, in which CEFRIEL research members are active, are: 

  • modeling, analysis and assessment of architectural systems for value-added multimedia service over Next-Generation Networks  by simulation tools, such OPNET and OMNET++;  
  • modeling, analysis and assessment of dynamic reconfiguration and dynamic service substitution mechanisms; 
  • development of new lightweight approaches for  automatic service substitution based on semantic annotations; 
  • design, specification and proof-of-concept of QoS over IP mechanisms, protocols, components and integrated solutions, in a fixed-mobile converged environment.

Contribution to CHOReOS

In CHOReOS, CEFRIEL will contribute to: 

  • the identification of reference components of the architecture,
  • the design of simulation tools to allow the analysis of scalability for adaptable QoS-aware ULS choreographies,
  • the investigation of new strategies and frameworks to be applied at run-time for verification and validation of services playing a role within a choreography,
  • the specification and implementation of WP7 use cases,
  • dissemination and technical assessment of Choreos acheivements.
